FLIGHT COVERS: (June) QANTAS return flight Cocos-Australia AAMC #1273c (through to United States) with Crocodile 2/- cancelled on arrival at Sydney, superb strike of the double-circle 'C.& W.LTD/11JUN51/ COCOS' cds ties type-written 'PER QANTAS/CATALINA/VH-EBA' label to the reverse, makeshift rouletted airmail label 'R COCOS/0023' on the face, a few very minor blemishes. Sold at our auction of 12.2.2010 for $4895 (Sale 153 Lot 515). Kim Dwyer's similar cover - opened-out for display - sold for $3450 at our auction of 24.6.2006 (Sale 122 Lot 1002) and Colin Riddell's cover sold for $3475. Twenty covers were prepared by ER Leigh-Parkin, who also created the labels & 'lightning flash' cachet on the face, and applied his personal seal to wax on the flap.
