1945 (June 27) use of Forces Blue Triangle Air Letter with letter headed "Section 301, Ceylon Air Forces", to Yorkshire, England with an unusually fine strike of the Indian-pattern 'RAFPOST 301/27JUN45/ +' cds and largely very fine 'RAF/CENSOR/575' cachet in violet alongside, the message including "I was out on the beach sunbathing all yesterday morning ... I'm sorry to say it is impossible to get photographs here", minor blemishes. [A Command Administration memo of 3.6.1945 advised all personal mail for the Cocos Islands should be addressed "Section 301, RAF, Ceylon Air Forces"] (Image1)

1945 (Sep 5) Indian-pattern 'AIR MAIL/LETTER CARD' to Australia with unusually fine strike of the Indian-pattern 'FPO/No 46' cds used on Cocos, to a member of "8 Aust Emp Coy/AUSTRALIA", self-censored by Lt Alan Benson who states "... the war is over at long last ... air passages are very precious & difficult to get ... could [you] send me a few food parcels ... big stores do the packing & despatch for you ... What an ingenious new name you have chosen ...", a bit of wear. Virtually all such items seen are addressed to Britain. This is presumably addressed to a Jewish refugee 'Dunera Boy', who were sent from Britain aboard the infamous 'Dunera' to internment camps in Australia. Hundreds were released to serve with the Australian Army's Employment Companies, where many of them anglicised their names. Sold at our online auction Number 7 for $718. (Image1)

TELEGRAPHIC MESSAGES ON POSTAL CARDS: 1908 (May 5) usage of Western Australia 1d with Two-Line Admonition to Scotland with brief message headed "Cocos 5 5 07", to Scotland with Perth machine cancel of MAY6/1907, minor blemishes. Ex David Flaat: sold at our auction of 22.2.2013 for $1225. Most such usages are to Malta. This is both an early usage and to Great Britain, making it an unusually significant item. Items like this were once thought to have originated on Cocos. It is now recognised that telegraphic messages were sent from Cocos to Perth where they were transcribed onto postal cards and then placed in the mail. (Image1)
