Gibbons states that after decimalisation the 2½d values were sold at 5c, but that between May-November 1865, they "were used to to prepay mail from Vancouver Island to British Columbia at the price of 15 cents a pair". The $1 express fee was collected by Barnard's Express for carriage of the letter from Yale to the mining area of Williams Creek on the Cariboo goldfields. An attractive combination express usage.
