When a typhoon hit Hong Kong, employees living in Kowloon were unable to cross to the island and keys to locked-up stamps were unavailable. The Postmaster General authorized the use of handstamps from 11:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M., and only a very few covers were serviced. No such handstamps before or after this date are known, and the three handstamps used were later destroyed to prevent re-use.
