Bermuda, 1879. Cover from Bermuda to London via Halifax, franked with the 1d pale rose and 3d yellow buff (SG 2 / SC 1, SG 5a / SC 3). Although prepaid, the letter exceeded the half-ounce weight limit and was treated as underpaid, attracting a penalty of twice the underpayment, recorded as manuscript "8" due on delivery. Clean strike of a Hamilton "1" duplex cancel, with Liverpool and London backstamps on reverse. Backflap missing, not affecting any significant markings. F–VF. Estimate: $150–$200. (Image)

Cover from Zurich, Switzerland, to Holyoke, Massachusetts, posted 24 August 1942 with black "ZURICH STADT" circular date stamp and "ZURICH 1 / 11-12 / 24 VIII / 1942 / BRIEFVERSAND" cancellation. Intercepted by the British Imperial Censorship station at Hamilton and examined by Examiner 4319, the cover was detained for nearly four years before release. Purple "HELD BY BRITISH CENSORS / RELEASED JANUARY 1946" handstamp applied on forwarding. Circle "T" and "DUE 10 CENTS" postage due markings with New York circular date stamp on arrival.
