image RED OVERPRINT: 'B.M.' on QV Perkins Bacon Large Star Wmk Rouletted 2d bright vermilion SG DO63, rouletting except at right where cut from the sheet well clear of the design, slight oxidation, large-part gum, Cat £2500; unpriced used. Rated RRRR; unrecorded used. Ex Baron von Ferrary, Ernest Lye and Colonel Napier (II). Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2019) states "extremely rare". Don Pearce's very fine example sold for $4075 (Sale 247 Lot 63). 'Besancon' had no 'B.M.' stamps. (Image1)

image BLACK OVERPRINT: 'B.M.' on QV De La Rue Crown/SA Wmk Rouletted 2d pale orange-red SG DO64 with prominent Dry Print, rouletting on three sides but cut from the sheet on three sides to largely preserve the design, large-part gum, unpriced unused by Gibbons. Unrecorded unused by Ron Butler but one other example is recorded so it should be rated RRRRR. Ex Baron von Ferrary, Theodore Champion and Philip Croker. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2009) states "extremely rare". Absent from the 'Besancon' and Don Pearce collections. (Image1)

Rated RRR. Ex 'Sir Humphrey' (Brian Farmer): sold for $815. Don Pearce's very fine example sold for $1495 (Sale 247 Lot 64). Absent from 'Besancon'. [Date range 20.2.1871 to 5.8.1874] (Image1)
