1890 (Aug) large-part cover-front to "Snt Heliers/Jersey/Channel Islands" with 'Protectorate/2d' on 2d SG 42 and '.../Fourpence' on ½d orange SG 53 tied by light '[SHOSHON]G/ [BECHU]ANALAND' cds (Proud 2000pts) & 'MAFEKING/SP2/90/BECHUANALAND' cds, overweight with bold seriffed 'T' plus '2d' amended with '4d'-in-circle. Shoshong PO -.8.1888; replaced by Palachwe 1889. This cds, poor though it is, proves it continued being used at Palachwe. The sender was Sgt H Bowles at Fort Victoria, Rhodesia, the cover being carried by military (runner?) to Shoshong. (Image1)

1899 (Sept 4) social cover to Wales with Protectorate 2d Jubilee pair SG 62 tied by two of three fine to superb strikes of 'MACLOUTSIE' cds, the reverse with superb 'PALAPYE/SP7/99' 24½mm cds transit (of Palapye Village; PO closed circa 1902) plus Welsh 'SWANSEA/OC2/99' and 'SKETTY/OC2/99' arrival cds, minor tonespots. Proud gives the LRD for the earlier 'MACLOUTSI' cds os "4.9.99", which should be corrected to the LRD for this cds, which he shows as used 1892-1896 only. His other late date of 20.8.97 for #D1 should be disregarded. Sketty Village is 3km W of Swansea. (Image1)
