Beard, two items, first is a 2-page handwritten letter to a Mr. Vance that closes with "…I have anticipated a jolly good time on that occasion but yesterday I received word that my sister in law Mrs. James Carter Beard had passed away and her death will prevent my from attending the excursion. (to Albany) My brother James' wife was very much beloved by all of us and our social engagements for the present are consequently canceled. Cordially yours, Dan Beard", second is a signed reproduction of his drawing of some geese, Daniel Carter Beard (1850-1941), nicknamed "Uncle Dan", was an American youth leader and social reformer who, in 1905 founded the Sons of Daniel Boone, a program based on American frontier traditions which he later merged with the Boy Scouts of America. Lou Brock, handwritten note on back of Waco TX business card "To Dude Duty 2/8/79, I am a professional thief…But every Base I steal is perfectly legal. Best wishes, Lou Brock, 'The World's Greatest thief'", signed on the eve of Brock's final season at the age of 40, Brock achieved his 3,000th hit during the season and earned comeback player of the year.
