(Artist) Charles West Cope (1811-1890), popular British artist and etcher, painted several frescoes in the House of Lords in London and hundreds of beautiful, known paintings. 1880 2-page letter reads; "Dear Sir, In reply to your inquiry, I cannot say positively, as I am absent from home and have no notes with me, but I believe the picture you mention of a mother and child, was exhibited in 1834 or 5 (when I returned from Italy) in the British Institution and was purchased by Mr. Beckford of Fonthill.
