POSTAL HISTORY: 1939 airmail PPC to Hampshire with 2d scarlet Die II only tied by 'AIR MAIL/1 21FE39 1/ BRISBANE QLD' cds, superb strike of the oval '("20")/CTMS/T'-in-oval h/s, GB '2D/I.S./P' h/s & Postage Due 2d black tied by 'PORTSMOUTH HANTS/6MR/39' cds, minor soiling at L/R. An absolute cracker! [The Empire Air Mail Scheme operated for only a year before it was suspended on the outbreak of WWII. Letters at the 5d rate are relatively common. Postcards could be sent for 3d but are rarely seen. This is the only example we have recorded of an EAMS postcard being carried by air despite being underpaid]
