1853 Couriers Plate I Second State with Blurred Background 4d pale orange as SG 9 but on Pelure Paper, margins close to huge with a fragment of the adjoining unit at left, light BN cancel, Cat £450. Superb! [We have several times in the past noted the use of Pelure Paper in this issue but are still waiting for a comment from anybody! It's interesting that the Local Chalon 1d is listed on Pelure Paper, so there's no doubt this flimsy stock was used for Tasmanian stamps]
1857-67 Watermark Double-Lined Numerals 4d pale blue SG 36 horizontal strip of 5, virtually full margins at top & left & elsewhere in places and fragments of four adjoining units, otherwise remarkably fine, unusually fine strikes of Second Allocation BN '87' of Table Cape, Cat £130++. A rare multiple.
1863-71 Experimental Separations Serrated Perf 19 at Hobart 2d yellow-green SG 119, rouletting on all sides, light 'COLONIAL TREASURER' cds, undercatalogued at £1000 for postally used. Superb! A beautiful & very rare stamp - even as a fiscal - & greatly enhanced by the cds cancel instead of the usual pen marks.
1870-71 Sidefaces Numeral Watermark 1d De La Rue 'dummy' stamp in dull claret block of 4 on photocopied piece from the printers' ink recipe ledger inscribed "Tasmania Red", the last unit with a stain.
1906-09 Crown/A 9d blue L/R corner block of 4, the L/H units Regular Compound Perf 12½x11 and the R/H units Irregular Compound Perf 12½x12½x12½x11 ACSC T71 (SG 256b) & variant, large-part o.g. with three units being unmounted, Cat $1600++ (£480++) for mounted singles.
1899-1900 Engraved Pictorials black & white photo (195x160mm) with imprint 'DILSTON FALL S.SPURLING' at L/R being the design accepted for the 6d stamp SG 236. Superb! We can't guarantee that it's contemporary but it's certainly not a modern print.
