1887: 5s ultramarine, four copies tied by cork cancel to letter bearing US Post office Shanghai registered 5. Feb. 1887, directed via San Francisco per Steamer 'Satsuma Maru' to Graz. The journey is well documented with a transit reguistered San Francisco dated Feb 28, 1887 and a New York Transit 9. Mar. In New York the letter also received the UPU registration label. The final canceller on the reverse is a 'Graz' arrival dated 21. March. The receipient a K.K. Major-General endorsed the letter as received the following day. A most unusual letter from the early days of mail from Asia, minor 'wear and tear' is to be tolerated. (Image 1)(Image 2)(Image)

1900/1919: Impressive accumulation of the issues of the Japanese Post Office in China in both used and unused as well as a number of unoverprinted stamps with some postmark interest. The collection begins with a complete set of the 1900 series unused.
