1925, Proofs of the Rivadavia Stamps of the Argentine Republic (Scott 8-10), plate proofs in black of the 1864 5c (Plate C), 10c (Plate B) and 15c (Plate B) values (#8-10) from the original plates in the collection of Alfred F. Liechtenstein, printed by Perkins, Bacon & Co. Ltd.; plate impressions measure approximately 9¾ x 12 inches, on sheets approximately 9¾ x 13 inches. Each proof with onionskin protective sheet (now toned, the proofs unaffected); with three-page introduction by F.J. Peplow and census of proofs taken; text pages uncut, blue portfolio cover separated along spine with top right corner missing and fore-edge tears or chips, still Very Fine and rare.
Purchased in 1923 by Liechtenstein from the estate of Estaban Latour, the plates were covered with preservative wax (used to protect steeled copper plates when not in use) and wrapped in oil paper. The plates were de-steeled, revealing perfect copper beneath, which was then re-steeled and printed on Imperial "loan" hand-made wove paper produced by T.H. Saunders & Co., Ltd., in an edition of 50, of which 35 were for sale.
This set is #11, with signed manuscript dedication "to his very good friend John Luff, Alfred F. Liechtenstein".. (Image)

Cat No: C11
1920, 10c green Flier in Plane Watching Biplane (Scott C11), A pristine complete pane of 72, fresh from the lithographer's stone. The designs were laid down in blocks of four, with resultant minor mis-registrations between blocks readily apparent. The full sheet layout—two horizontal panes of 72—can be surmised by the ragged right-hand margin (in contrast to the cut top, left and bottom sheet margins). Without gum as issued. Two margin tears hinge-sealed, otherwise sound but with moderate toned spots.
A great find for the Colombian aerophilatelist, or for your inner printer's devil. Shipping charges apply - weight 0.6 lbs. Scott $4,320. (Image)
