United States Whiskey Advertising Covers, 1856-1945. A valuable six frame collection neatly mounted on exhibition pages showing the gradual development of printing techniques over time to showcase the whiskey distilleries and the art of illustrated advertising for their products and premises, printing categories include early imperforate cameo printings, single color lithograph printings to later color and multi-color advertising envelopes, many of the larger distilleries were producing attractive advertising envelopes promoting the excellence, flavor, and purity of their products to attract the attention of the general public to the distillery's existence and to encourage the drinking public to commit or switch to their particular brands. The Green River Distillery catch phrase was "Whiskey Without a Headache" which had to be removed to meet the more stringent laws of advertising, many distilleries provided illustrations of their premises, which included buildings of surrounding business within the distillery's ownership, a lovely holding assembled over 20 years and would be very difficult to replicate.
