Airmail, 1928, 5¢ Beacon, Collection of All Plate Numbers Plus Siderographers and Plate Finishers Initials on Covers (Scott C11), approximately 370 flown covers franked with plate number singles or multiples (mostly singles) including all "F" and "normal" numbers, making this a complete set of all 186 blue and red plate numbers used on envelopes, minor duplication of numbers, better including Zeppelin flown cover, cover franked with Double "TOP" plate block, some flights outside the US with interesting frankings, few pilot or postmaster signed, with a worthwhile introduction by the consignor noting that he purchased many of the covers from one collector and then worked over a 43 year period to complete the collection, in 2 thick 3-ring binders, plus 96 first flight covers with plate finisher initials, over 400 covers are beautifully presented on 8½x11 inch pages with descriptions below the cover. some of which also have the history of the pilot or flight on the reverse, a couple flown covers are pilot or postmaster signed, in a very thick 3 ring binder, also includes a complete left NH sheet of 50 with siderographer Albert E. Fischer initials and signed in the selvage by USPOD officials Michael L. Eidsness Jr, Robert S. Regar (3rd asst. PMG) and Harry New (PMG), Very Fine overall and a phenomenal lot that, as evidenced, would take many decades to complete; this is a case where the value of the whole far exceeds the value of the sum of the parts, fully imaged online, sheet with 2022 P.F. certificate. Shipping charges apply - weight 23 lbs. Per John Meek's article in the June 1980 US Specialist (p. 332), the Beacon air mail stamp of 1928 was the last air mail issue to carry initials.
