Cat No: 704-715

image Washington Bicentennial Specialist Collection, 1932 (Scott 704-715), 130 hand-made pages with typed descriptions, photographic prints of drawings, and Washington Bicentennial examples of constant plate varieties on old time quadrille pages; perhaps half of the examples in mint singles, plate number blocks, and partial sheets originally created are present and represent a cross between the best scholarship of a classic specialist and a love letter to the hobby; when a jury determines Rarity it examines "difficulty of acquisition", how hard would it be to reassemble the exhibit, and between the hand made pages, typed descriptions, inserted photo line drawings, and the scarce philatelic material - this lot is rare; includes copy of Chapter XXVI (Washington Bicentennial Issue) as published in United States Postage Stamps of the 20th Century; also includes Explots of George Washington (1933), #704-715 perfins, and a few dozen on cover; philately at its finest, the high bidder will be delighted, Fine to Very Fine. image "In Stock" Extremely Potent Mostly Used Holding, 1846-1920, From New York and Providence, R.I. Postmaster Provisionals to a very thorough handling of the Washington/Franklins, an incredibly powerful assemblage of classics on black stocksheets, mostly used but plenty of better mint throughout as well. Multiples of #1 & 2, in-depth 1851-61 issues, copious Bank Notes, complete 1869 Pictorials, a very extensive array of 1st & 2nd Bureau issues, and more, all sorted into quasi-catalogue order but further analysis is unquestionably needed with various shades, watermark, and type & grill varieties yet to be determined, which could very well yield to even greater value than what already is in plain sight, not to mention fancy cancels and a number of proofs sprinkling in. Entirely viewable online with the first half of stocksheets scanned for a closer look. As expected, condition will vary, but overall Fine to Very Fine. Shipping charges apply - weight 7.1 lbs. image "Counter Attack" Mint & Used Holding in Counter Books, 1861-2017, Some people prefer to store their duplicates in glassines while others prefer stockbooks. For this particular collector, it was all about counter books, and it was probably a wise move, because when it comes time to sell, it is far easier to view the inventory. There is a total of 48 counter books, overall mostly used but still a lot of mint in between including many blocks. Two books specifically for possessions and two books for B-O-B with such better material as mint #236, 573, 675, 832 (plate block), RW13, and used 239, 294-99, 300-10, 323-27, 397-403, 524, C5-6, E2-5, Q11, R50a (pair), R80c, R83c, R87c, R94c, R105, R113-14, R116, R138, RW8, RW11, Canal Zone 21, Hawaii 71, etc. On-site inspection would be advantageous especially considering the amount of face in this lot, overall Fine to Very Fine, three books flipped online as reference.
