image Germany and Area, 1820s/1970s, postal history collection, comprising over 300 covers and cards housed in three 3-ring binders and spanning from the early 19th century through the 1970s; the first volume features seven domestic stampless entires, early German States material such as Bavaria and Württemberg on folded letters, progressing through early shield design issues, private packet cards, Germania frankings, inflation period items, and Hindenburg issues into the Third Reich. The second volume opens with Bavarian postal stationery and early picture postcards, leading into a solid array of illustrated stationery cards and a strong group of Third Reich material including Hitler and propaganda themes with special cancellations, while the third volume focuses on post–WWII issues including DDR special events like the Leipzig Fair, an attractive Marienkirche in Lübeck card with National Stamp Fair semi-postals, and a Polish forces abroad set on cover. While some covers show typical condition issues such as folds or age faults, the lot is generally sound and offers a sizeable, diverse assemblage with significant scope for both beginning and advanced collectors.
