Cat No: QC Eastern Townships
Advanced Collection of Québec Eastern Townships Early Picture Postcards, all displayed in three Lighthouse binders, we counted about 335 different (plus a few duplicates), mostly depicting buildings, town scenes, lakes, cottages, hotels, and much more. There are many older real photo cards (many published by J.A. Legaré in Waterloo, PQ), going up to about the 1940s, and we saw only a half dozen chromes, from places such as Brome Lake, Knowlton, Foster, Bolton Pass, etc. Overall nice condition, with the usual edge or corner creases, a wonderful opportunity for the collector or online reseller, as these are rarely offered and quite popular. Cat No: Miscellaneous
Circa 1840s Thomas Steiner Postmaster General Mail Trunk, an original mail trunk made of pine which was professionally stripped from most of its original paint, with an important section left untouched, leaving the following text on front: "T. A. STAYNER ESQre / Du. P. Mr. General / No. 2". Measurements are 27" (W) x 20" (D) x 14" (H). The box was then finished in a good quality oil to preserve its wood, and retains its original hardware, including original flat head screws, lock (no key) as well as the original handles and hinges. The corners are joined by lovely dovetail joins. Thomas Allan Steiner (1788-1868) was a British soldier from 1808 to about 1823, and was in Montréal during the War of 1812. In 1827 he succeeded his father-in-law as postmaster general of Upper and Lower Canada, when there were more than 80 post offices, and held the position until 1851 when there were 853. This trunk obviously belonged to him, and would have been used to carry mail during his office. Hinges are a little loose from the lid, and there is age wear, as appropriate, still a very fine example of early Upper Canada furniture in very fine condition. (Image)

Canada Post Booklet Dispenser, Late 1970s to Early 1980s, in great condition (a few with minor rust spots and light surface scratches). This dispenser was designed to be wall mounted and is made of sturdy metal. We note that this unit comes with one key but requires another to open the front panel. All instructions and branding are bilingual. Despite the fact that this dispenser is about 40 years old, it is not often offered for auction, especially in this nice condition, and would be a great item for the postal artifact collector, or displayed in a stamp den. Group of Interesting T. Eaton Company of Canada 125th Anniversary 1994 Stamp Issue Ephemera, consisting of a framed open booklet (Unitrade BK169) and First Day Cover of Unitrade #1510 (single stamp) and several large-format posters. One poster (x2) is the Canada Post lobby poster for the issue, one poster is the Eaton internal promotion poster for the sale of the stamps as an "Ideal Stocking Stuffer", likely in their philatelic department of the time and the final item (x2, one French, one English) is on thick poster board, likely from a store display (showing both Canada Post and T. Eaton Co. logos on stickers affixed to the items). These are in good condition, with some corner wear and bends, and would be great for the ephemera collector. All items shown in our online photos. Antique Cast Iron and Brass Post Office Balance Counter Scale, circa late 1800s to early 1900s, from the Burrow Stewart and Milne foundry company in Hamilton Ontario, featuring the Canada Post Office (Canada P.O.) and crown (GR) markings. The body is cast iron with one solid brass beam and sliding weight. One tray is flat and made of cast iron while the other one is curved and made of copper indicating that its primary function was to weigh newspapers. Scale is showing signs of wear, with what appears to be original paint, missing in spots and showing some oxidation. The last inspection sticker on it dates from 1976. Great addition for the postal artifact collector, or to decorate a stamp den. (Image)
