Mexico. 1856 "Hidalgos". Mexico District 4r. Red, two stamps, cut tight and slightly into in places, affixed very close together on a single-rate registered cover front from Mexico City to Celaya, used to send lottery tickets to be sold in the destination town, dated September 6, 1856, with rhomboid of dots cancel tying the franking, with this mute cancel being the earliest used in Mexico City. A very attractive example of the few surviving registered mails, as postal regulations required these fronts, used as signed proof of delivery, to be destroyed by the post office after two years.
