The obvious faults were placed sideways at the bottom of two pages (used PEI and used NB) and were not counted, and we counted the two 5c N.S. stamps as used, as we are not convinced they are unused. British Commonwealth
Sale No: 5
Lot No: 633

image A 60-Page Stockbook Filled with Mint Never Hinged British Colonies Stamps, QV to the 1950s, with some after that, with 53 pages of stamps. A lovely quality group which represents most British Commonwealth countries from Aden to Zululand (saw one page of Switzerland). A notable collection for the fact that every stamp is apparently never hinged, as per the owner and from a large sampling that we did to challenge him (we saw only that 4 Burma stamps were lightly hinged and placed upside down). The early issues of Queen Victoria to George V will mostly be in incomplete sets or even often singles, and we start to see complete sets after that. We saw many complete Omnibus sets including 1948 Silver Wedding, 1949 U.P.U. (noting complete Malaysian States, etc), 3 pages full of Australia and NZ plate blocks (out of the 8 pages of various blocks and plate blocks), and much more, with too many features to list. Overall fresh and fine to very fine, oour pictures should give a good idea of the contents. Should easily be worth our low estimate of less than C$10 per page. (Image)

image Collection of Mostly Mint Canada, 1852-1990, in two DAVO albums with slipcases and pages to 1992, then skips to 2005. Mix of mint and used up to the Edwards, mint only after that. Starts off with a used #4d (sulphuretted), a basic set of 11 Large Queens (a few are regummed or no gum, rest are used), mint Jubilees to the 50c, mostly mint Leafs, Numerals and Maps, a complete set of mint Québecs, a set of Admirals, including War Tax, coils, Provisionals, then pretty much complete from there to about 1984, with scattered issues after that, some in an envelope, ready to be mounted. Back of the book is quite strong and all mint, with complete Airmails, complete Postage Dues (to 1978), complete Special Delivery, complete O.H.M.S. and G overprints plus 2c and 5c Registration issues. The few mint items we checked revealed themselves to be a mix of hinged and never hinged, but we didn't check most, as they are mounted in split-back black mounts. We did, however note that some of the Jubilees and many of the Admirals were never hinged, and the Scroll issues mostly have old album offsets. image Old Time Collection of China, Republic of China and Provinces, 1898 to 1950, with about 1,500 stamps mounted on 37 large plus 23 small pages. The collection contains many complete sets of regular and overprinted stamps, in a mix of mint and used, plus some blocks of four or larger, as well as some back of the book including three Officially Sealed labels and a few pages of Airmail sets. The collector used a variety of hinges, including some old thick ones that tend to remain on the stamps when removed from the pages, else an overall fine collection with fresh colours. A very useful collection for the dedicated collector, should easily be worth our estimate. See photos for a glance of the contents. (Image)

image Valuable Old Time Extensive Collection of Offices in China, Shanghai and Chinese Local Post Office Issues, etc., carefully assembled and displayed on 55 quadrille pages, by a collector who lived in Hong Kong from the 1930s to the 1950s. A tremendously interesting collection, loaded with material not often seen. We noted a page of Italian Offices ($365), page of British Offices ($789), 11 pages of Shanghai Locals ($2,629), page of Yunnan-Fou overprints ($913), many pages of overprinted Indo-China issues including from Mongtseu ($346), Mong-Tseu ($606), a page of Mongtze overprint errors (€1,328 in Yvert Colonies catalogue), Mongtze #13 strip of 5 ($650), another page of Mongtze overprints ($1,559), 2 pages of French Colonies issues for China ($391), page of Hankow Local issues ($652), Nanking Local Post #1-15 ($381), also stamps from Foochow, Chungking, Chefoo ($357), Chinkiang, 2 pages of Amoy issues ($533), 2 pages of German Offices ($485), and more, including a few stationery cards (with staple holes). Very nice quality throughout, with many postmarks which should be of interest. The Scott catalogue value given assumes that all items are genuine, and does not include the pages either not counted, or counted in Euros using the Yvert Colonies catalogue. All pages have been scanned online. A great opportunity to acquire such an interesting and intact collection. (Image)

image Collection of Mint and Used People’s Republic of China, 1949-2013, with about 790 different stamps displayed chronologically in a stock book, with spaces left to fill-in the missing stamps. Most are used but there are mint scattered here and there, and we note that the #2 to 885 period is quite full, and becomes much more scattered from #886 to 4153. The early issues appear to be reprints, but we have not checked all of them. About 100 of the stamps are attributed to back of the book, which includes provinces, etc. Overall fine or better, see photos for a sample view of the collection. (Image)
