"P Sultana, on reverse, GEELONG FE8 origin and MELBOURNE FE9 1856 transit, very rare color on cover. Description accompanies.

"Sultana was a large clipper of 1308 tons, built by James Nevins, at Nova Scotia in 1853. Operated in the Liverpool/Australia trade for the White Star Line and later for the Black Ball line. The cover arrived at Liverpool on May 21st."

The Expedition was led by General C,G, Bruce and the cards were pre-printed with a short message and crew leader signature. "Dispatched by postal runner to India" Cancellation CALCUTTA 16 OCT 1924 to South Lancing England.


This is the first card found in our study that does not bear the fundraiser seal or the red "mailed at base camp" hand stamp.
