With Stereo 244, canceled with black Maltese Cross cancel, from London to Norfolk, back stamped Wells Norfolk Ap 24, 1841 cds, back of letter sheet headed Society: For the Extinction of the Slave Trade, and for the Civilization of Africa (S.G. MA 480), further explaining the state of Africa at the time, a plan to counteract slavery and the expense; toning on the back with some light creasing, Fine overall, a very rare example of this advertisement, very few have survived. Abolitionism in the United Kingdom was the movement in the late 18th and 19th centuries to end the practice of slavery, whether formal or informal, in the United Kingdom, the British Empire and the world, including ending the Atlantic slave trade.
