A rare group, issued in very small quantities of between 80 and 2,000 stamps. The 10pf, 20pf and 24pf values are listed in the Michel footnote, and valued there "between €500 and €1,500" and we have thus valued all three at the lowest of the range. (Image)

Extensive Mint and Used Bavaria Collection on 75 Pages, quite extensive, with a little bit of everything, including many shades, postmarks, printings, types, perforation changes, blocks, imperforates, overprints, back of the book, tête-bêche, marginal inscriptions, and more, many only listed in the Michel catalogue. Most items have a catalogue value and number penciled-in by owner, which may or may not all be accurate. Also includes a collection of Bavarian errors (mostly fly-speck inking issues) on stamps or overprints all neatly displayed on 37 well written-up pages, with colour blow-ups of the issues. Collection / Exhibit on the Printing Errors of Bavaria, 1849-1920, mounted on about 70 pages, many of which show a colour blow-up of the variety. The collection starts with a page showing the different types of varieties, then goes on chronologically by issue, showing mostly stamps, but also a few stationery items and franked covers. We note that most of the varieties are "fly speck" in nature, and would have been caused by over or under-inking, but there are also more outstanding ones. Of note are 5 covers franked with sets (or part sets), whose errors are illustrated and discussed on the next pages. A great collection for the Bavarian, or German States enthusiast, we have scanned some of the pages online for your viewing pleasure. (Image)

Lot of Mint 1864-1865 Hamburg Issues, with #9 (total of 24 stamps in singles, pairs and blocks, with at least 5 different shades), 12 (two pairs and a single in three different shades), 22 (total of 45 stamps in singles, pairs and blocks) and 23 (total of 19 stamps in various multiples). There are a great variety of shades here, including some not listed in Scott, so we counted the catalogue value as all cheapest major shade only. The great majority of these are mint never hinged, with a few of the early imperforates being hinged. We have carefully examined these using the Scott and Schloss descriptions on how to identify reprints, and are fairly confident they are regular issues, but we still recommend careful examination or viewing the scans we have online. A few of the imperforates have tiny toning spots, else an overall fine to very fine lot. (Image)

Germany, DDR, and Berlin Stock of Mint and Used in Eight Red Boxes, 1870s to 2010, all neatly sorted in roughly 6,500 dealer 102 cards with Scott numbers and with the majority of cards having retail prices shown (roughly 85% of the cards). The lot includes five red boxes of Germany, a red box of Semi-Postals and back of the book stamps, two red boxes of DDR, and a half filled box of Berlin, with material generally ranging from the 1870s to 2010. Duplication generally ranges from 1 to 10, and we roughly estimate there to be 20% mint stamps and 80% used stamps. A spot check indicated the majority of stamps retail $3 and under, noting some stamps and a few sets retailing $10 and up. We note a few faults with the early material. Generally fine to very fine. Large Stock of Mint Germany in Sheets, Part Sheets, blocks of four and mint singles, all in 19 sheet files, two thicker stockbooks, hundreds of glassines, etc. The group is overwhelmingly never hinged, with stamps mostly from the 1920s to the 1990s and heaviest in the period of the late 1940s. Included are more than 220 complete sheets of 25 to 100 stamps with many more stamps as singles, blocks of four and other multiples. Russian Zone and early East Germany are best represented, followed by West Germany, Berlin, Bavaria and other German areas. We estimate there to be more than 20,000 stamps in this group. The sheets and part sheets have some folds, tears and other damage, however, these tend to be confined to the selvedge, with the stamps themselves overall very fine. (Image)

Mint and Used Germany Collections in four lighthouse and one Schaubek album. There is a West Germany mint never hinged collection from 1960 to 1996, which we estimate to be over 80% complete in period, housed in two non-matching Lighthouse albums, both with mounts. For East Germany there are two matching blue Lighthouse albums with slipcovers with spaces for stamps from the beginning of DDR to 1979, which house a fairly complete collection from the mid-1950s to 1979 with mint never hinged, and a smattering of mint and used before the mid-1950s. There is also an older Schaubek springback album with a mostly used DDR collection which we estimate to be well over half complete from the start of DDR to the end of the pages in the album at 1968. All tolled, there are numerous sets and singles in the $10 to $20 of catalogue range plus the better souvenir sheet, Scott # 264a (mint, c.v. $60). Overall very fine. (Image)
