Great Britain: 1841 1d red-brown, mostly good to large margins, tied by London "19" cancel on 1851 (Aug.) soldiers 1d concessionary rate envelope, (flap missing) to Nottingham, England. The letter was sent by then private Thomas Shipley, No 2675, 2nd Battalion, 60th Royal Rifle's whilst in transit to the Cape. Countersigned by the commanding officer, some edge faults, very scarce. Shipley enlisted on 14 July 1849, he was promoted to Corporal on 10 May 1854, but reverted to Private on 7 Sept 1858, he served abroad at the Cape from June 1851 to Oct 1858 and at Bengel from Oct 1858 until his discharge on May 4th 1860.
