image British Offices in the Danish West Indies, 1812 St. Croix to Ireland. Folded letter rated "2/6" crossed out and rerated "3/1", with truly exceptional strike of the very rare "St. Croix, No. 27, 1812" fleuron date stamp, indistinct arrival postmark on reverse, Extremely Fine and choice.

WITHOUT QUESTION - ONE OF THE FINEST EXAMPLES OF THIS RARE EARLY BRITISH ST. CROIX FLEURON DATE STAMP.

The British invaded the Danish West Indies in December 1807. A British fleet captured St. Thomas on December 22nd and St. Croix on December 25th. Denmark-Norway did not resist and this occupation lasted until November 20, 1815.

Four items; 1862 cover to Scotland bearing 1862 1sh (tiny flaw) neatly canceled "C", unframed B.P.O. date stamp on reverse, 1883 cover to U.S. bearing 2½d blue (plate 23) and 1885 cover to Washington D.C. and redirected to Virginia bearing 1883 2½d lilac, both canceled "C" and with B.P.O. date stamp in red alongside franking, and 1887 1d postal card to England with "Quarantine Circular" printed message on reverse, canceled "C" with B.P.O. date stamp; all choice strikes, Very Fine.
