Farley Autograph Collection, begins with a complete set of Nos. 740-749 plus Nos. 739 and CE2 FDCs with Postmaster General embossed corner card addressed to FDR's personal secretary Miss Isabelle Wamsley at the White House with all of the original typed letters signed by Farley (reportedly 1 of 3 sets made), a complete set of Nos. 740-749 FDCs with PMG embossed cc to Georgia Senator John S. Cohen with the original letter signed by Farley for the 1c issue, 7c & 8c Parks FDCs and letters as above to VP John Garner, No. CE2 FDC and letter as above to George Clark, also includes Farley's signature on a 3 x 5 in. index card with COA, cut signature with a photo matted and ready for an 8 x 10 in. frame, signed photo in black of Farley personalized to a retiring employee with accompanying 1938 TLS in black, plus four other Farley signed TLSs including two with Coca-Cola Co. letterhead, a signed 6c 1968 FDR FDC and a signed PMG embossed cc cover as above, and 7 press photos of Farley with labels explaining whom the photos depict and the reason for their being taken, and a letter from someone who heard FDR's son tell him in a letter that FDR didn't want Farley to attend his funeral over hurt feelings from Farley opposing FDR's third nomination, also includes the July 30, 1934 issue of Time magazine with Farley on the front cover, and James A. Farley's book Behind the Ballots with faulty dustjacket and fake signature inside front cover, few faults to be expected but overall Very Fine, 27 Farley signatures in total, this lot is completely imaged online. Thomas Jefferson Free Frank as President,"Free Th:Jefferson Pr. US" and well-struck "Washington. City Dec. 21" circular datestamp and matching "FREE" handstamp, on front only mounted on second piece of paper sealing a small tear at top just touching the tail of the "S" in "US" and reinforcing a horizontal crease just touching very bottom of the signature, addressed to General John Shee in Philadelphia and docketed at right "20 Decem 1807 Thos. Jefferson".
This is the most desirable form of Jefferson's free frank because it includes the "Pr. US.", supported by the docketing at the right. John Shee has been called the commander of one of the most effective combat outfits in the Revolutionary War. After serving in the Revolutionary War, achieving the Rank of General, he became the Philadelphia City Treasurer, and died there in August 1808. (Image)
