image 1919, Kerong Court, registered stampless cover to Kathmandu, with ornate seal of the Kerong Court on reverse, carried by runner to the Nepalese Post Office at Rasuwa, with Sun and Moon c.d.s. , Trisuli c.d.s. alongside, typical edge faults, attractive strikes, scarce. Under the Thapatail Treaty of 1855, Nepalese courts were established in the Tibetan towns of Khasa, Kuti, and Kurong, to handle legal cases involving Nepalese citizens. Mail from these courts was struck with the appropriate court seal, and carried with free-franking privileges by couriers to nearby Nepalese border towns. (Image)
