1916 CANADIAN SUBMARINER LETTER 1916, posted from the Royal Navy Sick Quarters
at SHORTLEY-ENGLAND on JUN29'1916, from Canada's first Submarine Captain Lieut. William (Willie) Maitland and addressed to his mother in UCLUELET-BC, the sub had returned to port when five crew members got arsenic poisoning from the sub's
battery fumes, this was likely one of Maitland's last letters home as his sub was sunk by friendly fire from the French Airforce on it's next mission, Maitland and all crew members were lost, a rarity from an unpublished Canadian WWI disaster, the
