Britain, Used. If quality is the hallmark of your collecting penny reds, then this outstanding accumulation, housed in five volumes is absolutely recommended. Primarily but by no means exclusively, penny red stars – and there must be about 1000 per book, in the order of 5000 stamps. It is interesting apart from the tip-top quality to consider the methodology of this collector, apart from the quality he sought. From what we can see, it is postmarks, rather than sheet reconstructions – however the expert in this field will no doubt see other different dimensions as well. Such a good old fashioned holding of the line engraved issues is seldom available today, it is offered intact, as received. A lovely collection on old fashioned quadrille album leaves, beginning with the re-engraved specimen o/ps on both seahorses, SG235s/SG236s (cat. £160), plus further specimen on the 1f50 on 1/- SG211a (cat. £65). Also a further scarce specimens on the QV side profile, 25, 40, 50 and 1 pesetas accompanied by the set of 9 mint SG1-SG9, (cat £120), also an error on the long spacing 25cts between M and O. Then follow British POs in Levant with specimen o/ps 2 1/2d and 5d, 40 and 80 paras, followed bySG1-SG3 and then various different vals to 12pi of 2/6d. Next is EDVII with superb high values 24pi on 5/-, probably mnh and the large and small 4 of the 4d o/p in pair, seldom seen - then a lovely page of multiples and mint EDVII, as well as corner wing marginal copies etc. Perfection throughout. .

British Colonies (Commonwealth), */used collection 1840–1915 in Ideal postage stamp album. Bulging album with a nice early collection with many better stamps, strongest part is GB but there is often better stamps from close to every area. We can mention e.g. Bahamas SG6 with cert. Brandon, Barbados SG64, Mafeking SG12–13, Britsh Guiana SG 35, Strong GB section with several better high values e.g. SG127 pl2, SG120 with lovely Margate cancel, SG128, SG129, SG185, SG186, SG212 (revenue cancel), SG265 and SG266. Good Hong Kong incl. SG5, 23, 51 there is too much to mention and the collection goes on with good stamps from every area. Very much in the value of £30–80. Superb collection housed on quadrille album leaves, QV through to QE2 mostly for St.Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, mint and used, St. Helena probably the best with various different QV, rich colours, different types, through to KGVI then Ascension, KGV pictorials and a most interesting range of KGVI mint defins with different varieties for the specialist. Also, Tristan with KGVI reg. to one shilling, as well as first QE2 defins to complete ten shillings and wing marginal mint of the same mnh, through to an early booklet in pristine condition 3/6d, leading onto superb used complete, whale defins to ten shillings, followed by the change of currency set to the one rand, complete mint and used, etc. As far as we can see completion of defins and commems of that period. The condition is virtually all perfection. .

British Colonies (Commonwealth), Africa, */used. Several 100 stamps mint and used, housed in an old fashion album on quadrille leaves, mint and used, QV through to early QEII. Some of the better countries include British East Africa, especially the 1890/95 types to rp high value denoms, through to QV side profile and Uganda of the same. Then Gambia cameo heads, values to 1/-, the Nigerias, distinct postmark interest, Rhodesia with two dozen admiral heads to 5/- and separately Nyasaland. Then Southern Rhodesia also to 5/- side profile and mint pairs of the complete set KGVI of the same, etc, etc. A well rounded collection, assembled several decades ago with the distinct possibility of finds and varieties, unappreciated when bought at the time. The collection is completely uncatalogued.
