391 og ImageVATICAN CITY, 1931, 10c Dark Green & Light Green, Postage Due, Frame Omitted (J2a; Sassone S2A). Original gum, strong color and sharp impression

VERY FINE. ONE OF THE KEY RARITIES OF THE EARLY PERIOD OF VATICAN CITY. NO MORE THAN 100 CAN EXIST.

Like the 1.30 on 1.25 1934 Provisional with small "30" (No. 36a; Sassone 36A), this was a proof sheet that was supposed to be destroyed. And like that provisional stamp, one sheet of 100 stamps was inadvertently sent to a post office for sale. Despite the same number of each sent to the post office, the provisional error catalogues considerably more that this postage due error ($24,000.00 in Scott and €36,000 in Sassone).

Signed A. Diena and others. Scott $5,250.00. Sassone €7,000 (Image)

394 og Vatican City Errors and Varieties Collection. Many dozens of items on album pages, early to modern, many imperforate, imperforate between, and imperforate on one side, some color-omitted and a few double perforations, Sassone values to €2,800, the total value for items listed in Sassone is over €55,000, but there are several that are not listed, such as three photographic essays of a proposed 1929 design (Diena certificates), proofs and gutter pairs, thirteen with certificates (Raybaudi or Diena), most Mint N.H., Fine-Very Fine, a cost-effective way to obtain many errors and varieties of Vatican City at one time, which would sell for many multiples of our estimate if bought one-at-a-time
