158 og ImageLONG ISLAND, 1916, 1p Black on Thin Horizontally Laid Paper, "7" for "&" Error (SG 10a). Plate 9, pos. 6, without gum as issued, large to full margins, additionally showing slight shift of "One Penny" to left

VERY FINE. ONE OF ONLY THREE EXAMPLES POSSIBLE OF THE ONE-PENNY BLACK ON LAID PAPER WITH "7" FOR "&" ERROR.

All three examples are recorded: 1) single (ex Marquess of Bute), 2) single, the example offered here and 3) block of twelve containing the error (ex "Mountrobeck" and Vestey). It is believed that Plate 6, pos. 11 also contained this error (without "One Penny" shift) but no examples are recorded.
