Two slightly overlapping singles, plate 1b, lettered P-F and H-I, full margins to just touching at bottom left of P-F, tied by three heavily struck Maltese Cross cancels on 1840 folded letter to Chestham, Upper Canada, "Perth OC 19, 1840" boxed despatch on reverse, red Oct. 20 London transit, manuscript rated "2/8" and "Paid", cover with internal splitting, minor edge faults and slightly refolded at top for aesthetic purposes

FINE AND EXCEPTIONALLY RARE PENNY BLACK COVER TO AN OVERSEAS DESTINATION. ONLY THREE OR FOUR COVERS TO BRITISH NORTH AMERICA ARE THOUGHT TO EXIST, WITH THIS AS THE ONLY DOUBLE RATE COVER KNOWN.
