1226 TC ImageNEW BRUNSWICK, 1860, 5c Connell, 10c Queen Victoria, Se-Tenant Trial Color Compound Die Proof in Blue (Unitrade 5TCi). On card measuring 53 x 24mm with wide gutter between, diagonal broken crease from about middle of gutter to about middle of the Connell stamp

VERY FINE APPEARING COMPOUND DIE PROOF OF BOTH 5-CENT AND 10-CENT VALUES, EXCEPTIONALLY RARE AS MOST EXAMPLES HAVE BEEN CUT DOWN TO SINGLES.

Connell, a provincial postmaster, had his own portrait engraved on the 5c stamp instead of Queen Victoria, once this was discovered the entire printing of the Connell stamp was seized and destroyed although a few escaped destruction and today are very rare and much sought-after stamps.
