BRITISH GUIANA, 1856, 4c Black on Magenta (14; SG
24). Unused, initialed "E.D.W." (Edmond Dalzell Wight, clerk to the Colonial Post Office), large margins, strong paper color, vertical crease, which has slightly cracked the paper, has been strengthened VERY FINE APPEARENCE. WE ARE AWARE OF
ONLY SEVEN UNUSED EXAMPLES OF THE 1856 4-CENT BLACK ON EITHER PAPER SHADES. AN IMPORTANT RARITY, NOT ONLY OF BRITISH GUIANA, BUT OF THE WORLD. Some confusion exists between the different paper shades that is listed for the 4c - Black on Magenta
and Black on Rose Carmine (14, 14a; SG 24-25) - due to the delicate nature of the paper. We are only aware of seven unused examples of either, which are listed below including the last SG No. used in their offering: a) ex 1965 Rarities of the
World (Siegel Auction Galleries) and Jaffe (as SG 25) b) ex Ferrary, 1971 and 1981 Rarities of the World (Siegel Auction Galleries), Small and du Pont (sold as SG 25, with B.P.A. as "SG 24 group") c) ex Caspary, Lilly, 1973 and 2017
Rarities of the World (Siegel Auction Galleries) and Middendorf, the example offered here (as SG 24) d) ex Burrus (last offered in 2001 as SG 25) e) ex Gringold, Ray and "Foxley" (as SG 25) f) ex "Bartica" (as SG 24) g) ex
du Pont (as "possibly unused" SG 24) Ex Caspary and Lilly. With 1974 Friedl certificate. SG £100,000 (Image) View PDF of certificate Search for
