EXTREMELY FINE. AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1959 HUNTING PERMIT STAMP, INSCRIPTION INVERTED ERROR. THIS IS REPORTED TO BE THE ONLY UNUSED EXAMPLE KNOWN.
The inscriptions printed on the back of Federal Hunting Permit stamps, warning hunters to sign their stamps, began with the 1946 Issue (RW13) and continued until the self-adhesive stamps of the late 1990's. Starting in 1954 (RW21), the inscription was printed on top of the gum, which means when hunters affixed their stamps to paper licenses, the inscription was lost. Therefore, while it stands to reason that at least a full sheet of four panes (112 stamps) received the inverted inscription, many or all the others might have been lost to philately when the gum was removed during use. This is the only example of RW26a recorded by Bob Dumaine on his website at Sam Houston Duck Company. The Datz catalogue states two reported but we believe the other reported example is used (i.e. signed but never affixed to a license, Scott also lists a price for used).
Ex Rudy. With 2006 P.S.E. certificate (VF-XF 85; the error unpriced in SMQ) (Image)
