 One of the finest examples of the 1851 1¢ Type Ia
known on cover1¢ Blue, Type Ia (6), Position 97L4 with "Curl on Shoulder" plate variety, large bottom sheet margin showing the full plumes, other sides ample to large, deep rich Plate 4 color and sharp impression, tied by
clear strike of "New-York May 8" circular datestamp on Chemung Railroad Company May 7, 1857 printed notice to Baths, New York Extremely Fine--this is unquestionably one of the finest 1851 1¢ Type Ia singles known on cover. Especially desirable
with the "Curl on Shoulder" plate variety. Stamps printed from Plate 4 were issued in April, May and briefly in June 1857 before perforations were introduced. The relatively small number of imperforate Plate 4 stamps issued during this period
explains the rarity and desirability of any of the imperforate stamp types produced from this plate (Types Ia, Ic, II, III and IIIa). The extremely rare Type Ia, showing the full design at bottom, was furnished only by 18 of the 200 subjects on Plate
4 (the remaining two bottom-row positions were sub-type Ic). The 97L4 "Curl on Shoulder" and 97R4 "Curl in C" plate varieties resulted from a tiny thread adhering to the relief during the transfer process. On this stamp it appears immediately to the
left of the "8" of the May 8 datestamp. The "YS" notation on back indicates this cover was acquired from Y. Souren. Ex Dr. Scott Polland and Joseph Hackmey. With 2007 P.F. certificate. Scott value for No. 6 on cover is $14,000.00 and for 97L4

 A very rare strip of the 1851 1¢ Types III-III-Ic from
Plate 4 in superb condition and used on a small and pristine cover1¢ Blue, Types III-III-Ic (8-8-6b), Positions 45-47L4, E Relief, horizontal strip of three, right stamp is a rare Type Ic, huge margins all around showing full
characteristics of each type, both Type III stamps have wide breaks in lines at top and bottom, intense Plate 4 shade, early proof-like impression, tied by "Watertown N.Y. Jul. 17" circular datestamps on small neat cover to Sackett's Harbor, New
York Extremely Fine; strip lifted to smooth wrinkles and reaffixed. An extraordinarily rare combination strip of three of the 1¢ 1851 Issue from Plate 4, combining two Type III stamps and a Type Ic stamp. This strip is believed to be the
