VERY FINE AND CHOICE. A BEAUTIFUL AND SCARCE PLATE BLOCK OF THE 1899 50-CENT GUAM OVERPRINT ISSUE.
Only 4,000 of the 50c stamps were issued. Our informal research found only six other plate blocks; it is only known from the bottom position from Plate 75. None was offered in our 1989 specialized catalogue of Guam. (Image)

FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE IMPRINT AND PLATE NUMBER BLOCK OF THE 1899 $1.00 TYPE I OVERPRINT. THIS IS THE RAREST OF ALL GUAM PLATE BLOCKS -- ONLY FIVE ARE KNOWN.
Our records and those of Lewis Kaufman contain only five plate blocks, all from the bottom position of Plate 76: 1) ex Lilly and our 1989 Guam sale, slightly tropicalized gum, perfs just touch at top; 2) ex Tows and Wampler, interleaving adhering, perfs just touch at top; 3) ex Whitpain, slightly tropicalized gum, single short perf at extreme bottom edge of selvage; 4) ex Colonel Green (Sale 28, lot 1588), tropicalized gum, choice centering; and 5) ex Colonel Green (Sale 28, lot 1589), the block offered here
