GREAT BRITAIN, 1860, 1-1/2p Rosy Mauve on Blued
Paper, Prepared for Use but Unissued (SG Specialised G5; SG 53a; Scott 31). Block of six, lettered L-G to M-I, original gum, two h.r., three lightly hinged and bottom left stamp Mint N.H., phenomenal depth of color on fresh paper VERY
FINE BLOCK OF THE UNISSUED 1860 1-1/2-PENNY ROSY MAUVE. AN IMMENSE RARITY OF THE LINE-ENGRAVED PERIOD AND THE LARGEST KNOWN MULTIPLE IN PRIVATE HANDS. This stamp was printed and prepared for use in 1860 in anticipation of a change in postal
rates. Changes did not come to fruition, but some 10,000 sheets were already printed. Most of the supply was destroyed and it is unknown how or why unused examples managed to get out with three or four even postally used. Postal changes did occur
about a decade later in 1870, whereby SG Nos. 51/52 were issued using the same plates. A block of six is the largest recorded multiple known in private hands. We are aware of only two other blocks of six - D-J to E-L (ex Beresford) and R-F to
S-H. It goes without saying that multiples of any size are extraordinarily rare. Ex Adams and Baillie. With 2005 B.P.A. certificate. Catalogued simply as hinged singles. SG £51,000. Scott $52,500.00. (Image) View PDF of certificate Search for comparables at SiegelAuctions.com

GREAT BRITAIN, 1870, 1-1/2p Rose Red, Error of
Lettering OP-PC for CP-PC (SG Specialised G6(1)c; SG 53; Scott 32d). Plate 1, original gum, lightly hinged, deep rich shade, typical centering for this issue, barely perceptible trace of toning at top center FINE AND IMMENSELY RARE UNUSED
EXAMPLE OF THE OP-PC FOR CP-PC ERROR OF LETTERING. ONE OF THE SMALL HANDFUL OF ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLES IN EXISTENCE. This is the most significant and visually constant error of Great Britain Queen Victoria stamps. This error occurred on all
printings from Plate 1. Remarkably, the error went unnoticed during the four years of printing runs. In 1894 it was mentioned in an American journal, 24 years after release. Ex Seymour and Baillie. With 1989 R.P.S. certificate. SG £30,000.
Listed but unpriced in Scott. (Image) View PDF of certificate Search for comparables at SiegelAuctions.com
