VERY FINE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THIS DISTINCTIVE 8-STAR CONFEDERATE FLAG PATRIOTIC DESIGN.
Ex Baker. Illustrated in C.S.A. Catalog on p. 429 and in Wishnietsky's Confederate Patriotic Covers and Their Usages on p. 43 (Image)
VERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF ONE OF THE MOST ELUSIVE OF THE 9-STAR FLAG PATRIOTIC DESIGNS.
The ninth star represents the admission of Arkansas, which was followed only three days later by North Carolina. Due to the short time period there were fewer 9-Star Confederate Patriotic designs produced than any other flag design (7 thru 13 stars). Surviving examples are rare and are normally found with the F9-2 design. This flag (F9-1) is on a similar order of rarity to the other listed 9-Star design (F9-4).
Ex Antrim, Matthies, Weill and from our 1982 Rarities sale, where acquired by the Kilbournes. Illustrated in C.S.A. Catalog on p. 431 and in Wishnietsky's Confederate Patriotic Covers and Their Usages on p. 50, where stated "one reported". C.S.A. Catalog value $10,000.00 (Image)
VERY FINE. THIS 9-STAR CONFEDERATE FLAG WITH "CHATHAM ARTILLERY" IS ONE OF THE RAREST OF ALL CIVIL WAR PATRIOTIC DESIGNS.
The ninth star represents the admission of Arkansas, which was followed only three days later by North Carolina. Due to the short time period there were fewer 9-Star Confederate Patriotic designs produced than any other flag design (7 thru 13 stars). Surviving examples are rare, particularly with the regimental slogan.

A WONDERFUL MATCHING COVER AND LETTERSHEET WITH 9-STAR CONFEDERATE FLAG PATRIOTIC DESIGNS.
The ninth star represents the admission of Arkansas, which was followed only three days later by North Carolina. Due to the short time period there were fewer 9-Star Confederate Patriotic designs produced than any other flag design (7 thru 13 stars). Surviving examples are rare, and we believe the lettersheets are even rarer than the covers.
Acquired by the Kilbournes in 1966 in Siegel Sale 304 (lot 2100) (Image)
VERY FINE AND EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THIS 9-STAR CONFEDERATE FLAG PATRIOTIC USED FROM FLORIDA. ONLY TWO EXAMPLES FROM FLORIDA ARE RECORDED.
The ninth star represents the admission of Arkansas, which was followed only three days later by North Carolina. Due to the short time period there were fewer 9-Star Confederate Patriotic designs produced than any other flag design (7 thru 13 stars). Surviving examples are rare. This example used from Florida is one of only two 9-Star Flag uses recorded in the Briggs census. The other is offered in the following lot.
Ex Dr. Briggs. Illustrated in Briggs's Florida Postal History During the Civil War on p. 213 (Image)

The ninth star represents the admission of Arkansas, which was followed only three days later by North Carolina.
