5c Blue, Local (7). Block of ten in 2 x 6 format,
ample to full margins nearly all around, just a tiny nick at upper left and small cut or tear in left edge between positions 5 and 7, quite beautiful condition for a used multiple of this size, tied by violet "Pendleton S.C. Jan. 27" (1864)
circular datestamp struck three times on cover to Charleston S.C., manuscript "10 Due", pencil docketing, some mends on backflap, back side panel and top right corner VERY FINE. ONE OF THE MOST OUTSTANDING COVERS BEARING THE 5-CENT
RICHMOND TYPOGRAPH ISSUE. The 5c Local print is one of the most common Confederate stamps on cover. However, large multiples on cover are scarce and this block of ten, on a standard-size cover with violet town cancels is truly remarkable and has
graced some of the most important early Confederate collections. Ex Moody, Finney, Antrim and Weatherly. Acquired by the Kilbournes in a trade with Earl Weatherly in 1964
