656 ogbl Image10c Light Milky Blue, Stone Y (2e). Block of four, original gum, few small h.r. in corners, large margins all around including bottom sheet margin, bright color, distinctive Stone Y impression

EXTREMELY FINE. THE FINEST RECORDED BLOCK OF THE 10-CENT PATERSON LITHOGRAPH FROM STONE Y. UNUSED EXAMPLES -- EITHER IN SINGLE OR MULTIPLE FORM -- ARE VERY RARE.

Leonard H. Hartmann, in an article on the 10c Stone Y stamps (Chronicle 186, May 2000, p. 121), stated that he had seen only two singles and a faulty block of 15 in unused condition from Stone Y. One single was from the Caspary collection and the block of 15 was in the Wickersham collection sold by Robert Laurence in 1940. That block is now part of the Hartmann collection. There is also mention in Dietz of an unused block of 10, which may in fact be referring to the defective block of 15. This block of four (ex Hall) and another block of six were off the market for many decades when Mr. Hartmann wrote his article and were unknown to him.

Ex Knapp and Hall. Listed in Scott but unpriced as an unused block (Image)
