VERY FINE APPEARANCE. THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THE PERFORATED 2-CENT RING'S VEGETABLE AMBROSIA ISSUE ON SILK PAPER.
This is one of the keys to a complete collection of these issues. It was lacking from the Joyce collection.
Ex Hochman, Watson and Bulkley. With 2012 P.F. certificate (Image)
VERY FINE APPEARING EXAMPLE OF THE IMPERFORATE 4-CENT BLACK RING'S VEGETABLE AMBROSIA ON OLD PAPER. ONLY NINE ARE RECORDED.
Nine examples are recorded in the Aldrich book. The book also notes that five are sound, but every copy we have encountered has thin spots, including both Joyce copies, the Lilly copy, the Tolman copy and one in a 1953 Harmer's sale. The P.F. has only certified two -- one with thin spots and one seriously defective. (Image)
FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 4-CENT RING'S VEGETABLE AMBROSIA ON SILK PAPER.
Only ten are recorded in the Aldrich book, about half of which are sound. One of the ten has a clipped corner and another has part of bottom of design scissors-separated and rejoined. (Image)
VERY FINE. A RARE SOUND ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE PERFORATED 4-CENT RING'S VEGETABLE AMBROSIA ISSUE ON SILK PAPER.
Only 24 are recorded in the Aldrich book. It is unknown how many retain their original gum. Ex Tolman. With 2007 P.F. certificate (Image)
EXTREMELY FINE APPEARING ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE RING'S 4-CENT PART-PERFORATED ISSUE ON SILK PAPER.
Only 15 are recorded in the Aldrich book, which does not note how many are known with original gum. Ex Weill Brothers (Oct. 1990 Christie's sale) (Image)
VERY FINE AND CHOICE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF SCHENCK'S MANDRAKE PILLS ONE-CENT PERFORATED ON WATERMARKED PAPER.
2,479,000 of the 1ct Mandrake Pills stamps were issued on Old Paper, 27,000 of which were perforated. 3,439,827 were issued on Silk Paper, and 1,266,827 were issued on Pink and Watermarked papers, most of which were imperforate. This stamp on Watermarked paper with perforations is exceedingly rare. The Joyce and Lilly collections did not contain an example, and this is the only example we have offered since keeping computerized records.
Ex Tolman and "Scarsdale". With 2003 P.F. certificate (Image)
