VERY FINE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1870 ONE-SIXTH BARREL ISSUE IN THE YELLOW OCHRE SHADE.
Only six examples of this shade are recorded in the Priester census, and this is the only example we have offered since keeping computerized records. This brewery is in Morrisania N.Y., which is now part of the Bronx. It later became the David Mayer's Centennial Lager Bier Brewery, which burned down in 1881, was rebuilt, and burned again in 1884.
Ex Tolman and "Scarsdale". With 2006 P.F. certificate. Undercatalogued in Scott. (Image)
FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1870 HALF-BARREL BEER STAMP WITH GRAY-GREEN AND YELLOW SECURITY LINES. ONLY FOUR ARE RECORDED IN THE PRIESTER CENSUS.
We have offered only one other since keeping computerized records (ex Tolman, which had similar margins). Ex "Scarsdale". With 2005 P.F. certificate (Image)
FINE APPEARANCE. ONLY TWO EXAMPLES OF THE 1870 HALF-BARREL IN THE BRICK RED COLOR ARE RECORDED. ONE OF THE GREAT RARITIES OF THE ISSUE.
The Priester census records only two examples of this issue in the Brick Red color with yellow security lines. The other example, cut square and defective, was offered in our auction of the Tolman collection and was also used at a brewery in Philadelphia.
Ex "Scarsdale". With 2005 P.F. certificate (Image)
FRESH AND EXTREMELY FINE. A RARE UNUSED EXAMPLE OF THE 1870 ONE-BARREL BEER STAMP.
Only 15 are recorded in the Priester census, of which four are in an unused block. We do not know how many of the remaining ten examples are unused -- we have sold no other unused and only one used example since keeping computerized records.
Ex Tolman and "Scarsdale". With 2012 P.F. certificate (Image)
