VERY FINE. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 5-DOLLAR FOOCHOW NEUTRALITY OVERPRINT.

The overprint, which reads "Provisional Neutrality", was released to the public following the Chinese Revolution in February 1912. Sales were suspended shortly after release, a few denominations had already been sold at the Foochow Post Office. Only 280 of the $5.00 were sold prior to being pulled from sale. (Image)

Similar to the Foochow Issue, the newly formed Republican Government criticized the overprint for still using the "Provisional Neutrality" overprint in addition to "Republic of China". Sales were suspended, but not before 156 examples were sold in Nanking and Hankow. (Image)
