Lot Sym. Lot Description
4155   South Africa Interprovincial Period Unparalleled Collection. Neatly mounted, organized and knowledgeably described on exhibit pages covering the time period after the creation of the Union of South Africa in May 1910 by Cape of Good Hope, Natal, Transvaal and Orange Free State, whereas stamps, revenues, stationery and stamped stationery were valid for a period afterwards (stamps as late as 1937), also partially due to shortages, this collection includes examples used provincially (used within the same province) as well as interprovincially (i.e. Natal used in Transvaal), there is an incredible array of stamps incl. multiples, covers and stationery with a wide variety of uses such as railway markings, maritime, air posts, fiscal uses, governmental uses, customs duty, postage dues, forwarded mail, etc., collection also includes a one frame exhibit of Postal Stationery and two frame exhibit of Revenues with a wide range of documents and uses, there are also a few pages of stamps used in Basutoland and Swaziland plus a copy of The Interprovincial Stamps and Postmarks of the Union of South Africa by Berry and Vermaak, much is Fine-Very Fine, an undeniably difficult collection to recreate which would easily take a lifetime worth of effort to amass, a wonderful opportunity from which to continue building this collection
