straightline datestamp on folded letter to New York, manuscript "18-3/4" rate, vertical file fold, band of toning, otherwise Very Fine strike of this very early railroad marking, this is a variant of the B1a marking in Remele with the "Md" removed
and is the listing example in Towle, this is reported to be the earliest postmark used on this line and one of the earliest of any railroad marking, Nov. 2 and Dec. 5, 1837 are the only two earlier and they do not specify the name of the railroad (Image) Search for comparables at
