VERY FINE. ONE OF ONLY THREE KNOWN "CANAL ZONE" REGISTRATION ENTIRES WITH THE PANAMANIAN SURCHARGE OMITTED.
?These envelopes were printed by the American Bank Note Company for use in the Canal Zone. By the time they were delivered in December 1920, authorities decided against using registration envelopes, because they did not reduce loss or pilferage as they hoped. The supply was shipped back to Panama, where they were to be overprinted and surcharged. Only three examples (two unused, one used in the following lot) have been recorded without the Panamanian overprinting.

VERY FINE. THE ONLY RECORDED USED EXAMPLE OF THE "CANAL ZONE" REGISTRATION ENTIRE WITH THE PANAMANIAN SURCHARGE OMITTED.
Enclosed is a note from Coveleski stating this envelope was purchased in Panama and used in the Canal Zone, and that about five envelopes have the surcharge omitted. Only three examples (two unused and this used) have been recorded without the Panama overprinting.
