FINE-VERY FINE. AN OUTSTANDING QUALITY SHEET-MARGIN PAIR OF THE 1918 2-CENT MISSING OVERPRINT ERROR.
This error was caused when one sheet was misfed into the printing press, and the right vertical row of ten did not receive the overprint. Two additional copies are known caused by a foldover. (Image)
VERY FINE EXAMPLE OF THE "ZONE" ONLY ERROR. ONLY FIVE ARE RECORDED, ONE OF WHICH IS USED.
This error was created by a foldover in the left vertical row of one pane, which caused "Canal" to print in the sheet margin. The following examples are known: 1) pair offered in Siegel Sale 878, lot 615; 2) similar pair offered in our "Laila" Sale 974, lot 720; 3) unused in horizontal pair with normal, part of "Canal" visible at left, ex Plass lot 581; 4) the example offered here; and 5) left stamp in horizontal strip of five used on cover, ex Plass, lot 582. The Gibbs block is the only example to also show the whole overprint omitted as well (Image)
EXTREMELY FINE. THIS 1920 ONE-CENT PANE IS THE RAREST OF ALL NON-ERROR BOOKLET PANES OF THE CANAL ZONE.
According to Canal Zone Stamps, about half of the surviving panes are missing the tab. This intact pane with the tab and choice centering is among the finest, if not the finest, extant. (Image)
FINE CENTERING AS ALWAYS. A DESIRABLE PAIR WITH THE RIGHT STAMP SHOWING THE DOUBLE "CANAL" ERROR.
The Double "Canal" error was created when the "Canal" portion of a second overprint impression was made along the righthand vertical row of ten. The normal stamp in this pair and the "Zone" in selvage are striking visual evidence of the cause of this error. (Image)
FINE CENTERING AS ALWAYS. THE UNIQUE CORNER-MARGIN PLATE NUMBER COPY OF THE DOUBLE "CANAL" ERROR.
The Double "Canal" error was created when the "Canal" portion of a second overprint impression was made along the righthand vertical row of ten. This stamp with the corner sheet selvage and plate number is unique in the true sense of the word. (Image)
