Lot Sym. Lot Description
287 nh Image1c Green, Perf 12 x 10 (423A). Mint N.H. vertical pair, deep rich color, top stamp had tiny corner perf crease at top left, perf has since been removed without affecting its appearance

FRESH AND FINE. THESE ARE THE ONLY RECORDED MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLES OF THE ONE-CENT 1914 COMPOUND PERF 12 x 10 ISSUE. TWO OF ONLY SEVENTEEN RECORDED UNUSED EXAMPLES, AND ONE OF ONLY TWO PAIRS CONTAINED IN OUR RECORDS.

Our census of Scott 423A, available from our website at: http://siegelauctions.com/dynamic/census/423A/423A.pdf , contains nine unused singles, two vertical pairs and a block of four, for a total of seventeen unused copies. All genuine stamps are off-center, as is the pair offered here.

This pair was included in our original census, based on the catalogue description from a 1946 Costales auction of the Colonel Green collection. This item was rediscovered by us in 2004 when looking through several file cabinets of unused and used stamps in an estate collection.
