Dateless circle and "25" rate handstamps on cover with Berlin & Jones cartoon depicting "North" Uncle Sam saving the "South" who has fallen into "secession" alligator waters, addressed to Stirling, Canada, "U.STATES" straightline handstamp, manuscript "Pd" indicating 10c steamship rate and 15c postage prepaid, May 16 and 17 (1862) backstamps, with original letter datelined "Steam Ship Champion, April 30th 1862" from a man on his way to San Francisco and Victoria B.C. via Panama, mentions that mail cannot be sent from Panama so he is giving letter to ship purser, cover roughly opened at top, but all of the essentials are intact, paper could easily be restored if so desired, otherwise Very Fine with clear markings, a fantastic use of this rare cartoon design (Image)
